The Pro Bono Committee has successfully initiated pilot pro bono appeals programs with the Texas Supreme Court and the Third Court of Appeals in Austin. The committee, along with the Houston Bar Association, will soon be instituting a similar program with the Houston Courts of Appeals, and is discussing similar programs with other courts of appeals. Through these programs, we work with the courts to identify and place pro bono appeals with members of the section who have volunteered to handle appeals. The committee is exploring the potential expansion of the pro bono program in the federal court of appeals, and working to facilitate appellate pro bono programs in other states.
